Why do I need an SSL certificate?
SSL encrypts data between a visitor’s browser and your website. That’s essential for logins, forms and payments. Without HTTPS, browsers mark the site as “Not secure”, which undermines trust before anyone even reads your content.
Which SSL certificate should I buy?
Basic suits a single website. Choose Wildcard if you use many subdomains, Multi-Domain for several brand names on one cert, or OV when you want organisation validation for stronger business trust.
What’s the difference between Basic, Wildcard and OV?
Basic covers one domain (www and non-www). Wildcard covers that domain plus unlimited subdomains. OV validates your organisation as well as the domain — useful when you want stronger business identity on the certificate.
Do you install the certificate for me?
Yes — for sites on Host Cloud hosting we can handle install and HTTPS redirect. If the site is elsewhere, we’ll still guide validation and hand over the files your other host needs.
How many domains does Multi-Domain cover?
Three domains by default. Extra names can be added — contact sales@hostcloud.ie for SAN pricing if you need more.
Can I change the domain after the certificate is issued?
No. Certificates are issued for specific names. If you’re unsure which domains to include, talk to us before ordering and we’ll help you pick the right type.
How long does issue take?
Most domain-validated certificates issue the same day once validation is complete. Organisation Validated certificates typically take 1–5 business days because the company check takes longer.
