Common questions about cloud VPS, Linux, managed add-on and how it compares to dedicated servers.
What is a cloud VPS?
A cloud VPS is a virtual private server that runs in a cloud infrastructure. You get a private slice with dedicated CPU and RAM, full root access and your own Linux environment — more control than shared hosting, with better flexibility than buying a full dedicated machine up front.
How does VPS differ from a dedicated server?
A dedicated server is a full physical machine with fixed hardware. A VPS is virtualised (KVM) on shared enterprise hardware, but your CPU and RAM are reserved for you. VPS is usually more cost-effective to start and easier to upgrade; dedicated suits the heaviest, noisiest workloads that need the whole box.
What can I host on a VPS?
Typical uses include web applications, APIs, databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis and similar), staging and CI environments, and custom Linux services. If it runs on Linux with root access, you can usually run it on our VPS.
Does the VPS include cPanel or NexStack CP?
No. By default you get a clean Linux OS plus the NexStack VM virtualisation panel (reboot, reinstall, power). Hosting control panels such as cPanel or NexStack CP are separate products — ask us if you need a panel licence on your VPS.
Do you offer Windows VPS?
No. We only sell Linux VPS. Choose from current supported distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, CentOS Stream and Alpine at order time.
Can I add managed VPS later?
Yes. Managed VPS is an add-on from €24.95/mo you can select at checkout (or ask us to enable later). One plan button — managed care is optional on top.
What does the managed add-on include?
OS updates and security patches, monitoring and alerts, backup oversight, basic firewall hardening, help with Linux services, and priority response when the VPS has issues. Application development is not included.
What about backups and bandwidth?
Port speed is included with your plan (100 Mbps up to 1 Gbps). We recommend keeping your own off-site backups as well; managed customers get backup oversight and restore help. Ask sales if you need a formal backup add-on for your workload.
Where is the VPS hosted?
VPS servers run in our Dublin data centre in Ireland, with full root access on your instance and KVM virtualisation throughout.
Is NexStack related to Host Cloud?
VPS runs on NexStack VM — Host Cloud’s own virtualisation stack, built in-house for our customers.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Move to a larger plan when you need more CPU, RAM, storage or port speed. Contact us and we’ll arrange the upgrade.
